WHY why the fuck not

Little seven year old Junior had absolutely no idea where he was. It was some kind of little apartment, nothing huge or spectacular, but it was unfamiliar and made him scared all the same. If he'd been brought here while he napped, his grandparents would be around somewhere, right? Sometimes they had to do things and couldn't leave him at home so he got to come along and do keep himself busy out of earshot. This wasn't like that.

He was really tempted to stay exactly where he was and wait. They would find him eventually, right? But maybe they didn't know he was awake now... he wouldn't leave the apartment, but maybe he could look around the rooms. Peeking his head around the corner of a doorframe, he loudly tried to whisper, "Granma? I'm awake... are you here? Granpa?"

WHY fluff fluff fluffy fluff

Junior wasn't really sure if he was early or if Kenzi was late. It was somewhat routine by now that they'd probably miss each other once before finally actually meeting up since they tended to congregate in populated places. Something about seeming less suspicious starting out in hangout spots even if they weren't doing anything that would actually come off as suspicious. Some of those little lessons from his grandparents that never really faded with time.

Either way, he had his eyes peeled and was patiently standing where he was as a beacon of tallness for Kenzi to find. He could have tried focusing his own ability of sensing faelike creatures but that only worked some of the time and left him with a killer headache to force it.

Tonight was supposed to be lighthearted, hanging out and maybe grabbing something to eat for Junior and letting Kenzi have a bite, too. Windowshopping or whatever else caught their eye. No need to start it off bad.

WHEN 2106. Junior is 26, Felix is 28, Ash is ??? clone?
WHERE Local shopping center. Mall. Thing.
WHY We don't have to explain ourselves to you

It had been a while in coming and some struggle with financing, but eventually (finally), Junior and Felix had managed to "relieve" Ash of his duty at the company where he had been "employed". (Owned was more like it, and Junior tried not to think about what it meant to save one synth from his fate while leaving the rest there in continued disservice to their individuality.) The two of them owed Ash a lot, not the least of which being their current relationship status. It was a bit convoluted all told, but the fact of the matter was, once Junior understood what was happening with the business, he couldn't just leave it alone.

So, not only did they have a synthetic clone under joint possession between them but it had become rapidly apparent that Ash had no possessions to his name. Two sets of clothing. That was all he was released to them with and it definitely wasn't enough, no matter that he didn't sweat or otherwise dirty them at the same speed or in the same way as breathing humans did. Now they were at the mall, and Junior was hoping to get out of it with minimal attention. It was how he always operated in too big of an open space, much more happy to focus on the people he came with than anything else external.

"All right, where first?" he asked to the both of them. Ash's accent was foreign but there was no way of telling whether that was natural or programmed, so he wasn't going to assume he might not be familiar with the area. "I haven't actually been to this mall for a while... Has anything changed?"

WHERE Start at the bakery, work our way from there
WHY read: what

Every now and then, it was easy to forget what he really was. Not that it was a thought that ever left him, but an instinct you cold live through without acknowledging. Like breathing or walking or getting up in the mornings. His power was delicate and difficult to comprehend — not that Junior allowed himself to slack on maintaining control, oh no — which meant that he would be better off letting it rot while he lived his own simple life. His powers had nothing to do with who he was or what he was capable of. Even if sometimes it made things a little more convenient than not.

His day was like any other, just working in his bakery and considering what he would need to restock, where he would need to meet up on interviews for part-timers and everything in between. He wasn't worried about his status, not even with the quiet murmur of mutants on the rise in the area getting everyone into a tizzy; some poor teenager had grown into their genes in a way that was hard to ignore, and that left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Even though his own mutant puberty hadn't been so noticeable, it had been a disaster nonetheless. It was more than enough reason to keep his head down through the panic and confusion, the gossip and sensationalization.

The store was empty at the moment, blinds pulled down in the harsh afternoon light leaving only the silhouette visible from the outside, and Junior still had some things to get done. Glancing at the door to make sure no one was coming in, he twisted his hand and the broom started its work across the floor. Dirty to clean. Maybe he could have pushed harder and forced the shop to clean itself but there was a sort of simplicity he enjoyed in watching the effect he could have, making it more mundane than awe-inspiring. Like this, he could pretend his power was something banal like telekinesis. He could certainly approximate plenty of different things if he thought long enough about what forces acted against each other; as long as nothing was accomplished in a true neutral fashion, Junior would usually mimic it.

And considering that for every action, there was a reaction, well... he had plenty of room to work with.

Glancing to the door once more, he quickly shoved the broom back into the corner with the wave of his hand and got back to tending the counter when he saw someone approaching. Easy, simple, nothing to worry about. Just another day. No indulgence here. Better to save the rest for after hours, probably. Maybe never. "Hey, uh, welcome. Anything I can get you?"

WHERE Junior's hometown! Somewhere convenient!
WHY why not, I ask you

When Junior had been talking with an old friend after meeting up to catch up on lost times, he hadn't expected the conversation to go the way it had. Making life artificially was illegal, highly so and for good reason with all the things you could do before it was born, but approximating it had apparently become the new craze of all the top researchers. Joking around that Junior needed something to work his energy out on before he could calm down and just talk to Felix about Real Life Important Things (Such As Love) was all well and good, but a cyborg? Well, android. Except not that either, because those terms had already been adopted from the popular lexicon for other things. This was just... a doll, of sorts.

Not that it made it any less weird. Times were crazy and Junior wasn't sure he felt like keeping up.

What he hadn't expected was for his friend to go through with it, actually make up an order and have it sent to his apartment above Buns 'N Roses like it was a candygram or an express-shipped package. This was... not quite a person, but close enough to be weird. Huh. Standing in the doorway and looking at the redhead on the other side, there wasn't a lot he could say.

"You're, um... Justin sent you?"

WHY because I love you all

This was not going entirely to plan. Not that he was floundering or anything, and he had the funds to sustain himself for a while no matter how much he messed up, but Junior was rapidly realizing that living away from home was not as simple as finding replacements for everything he left and simply continuing on. There were such things as shopping lists for basic necessities that he actually hadn't gotten the hang of; most of his shopping had been the ingredient sort, which he knew well enough, but what about the other things? Long-lasting supplies and such.

What he should have done was call his grandparents. Admit he needed some help and he may have shooed them off a little early with his enthusiasm to start learning and making himself better, more of an adult who didn't need his grandparents' guidance to know what kind of laundry detergent to buy. He looked again at the rudimentary list he'd drawn up and brushed his hair away with a little narrow-eyed squint. This was clearly the fault of the list. He should have prepared that thing better. Maybe he should call Felix? Talking to him would at least cheer him up...

But no. No, he could do this. It was a shopping trip. What the hell? He didn't need to call the cavalry. Starting to move before fully looking away from his list, he pulled up short almost immediately when he nearly ran over the person who was already in that space. Which was pretty impressive considering he was still a runt well into early adulthood now. "Whoa—I'm so sorry! Sorry. Um, that... I was just thinking. Sorry," he said, once again shifting his hair as if the action would hide him.

WHY because why not

After coming to blows with a contingent of Stormtroopers planetside, Junior hadn't really expected to wake up in one piece. Or wake up at all, that had always been a possibility. Despite the fact that he wasn't a fighter, he did dangerous things for the sake of his mother and the Resistance, or his father and their smuggling. There was always risk involved, a cost-benefit analysis that he tended to ignore in favor of being there for his family. It wasn't quite a conscious reaction to the Ben's abandonment fifteen years ago, but if someone poked at it, he couldn't well deny the possibility.

Everything involving Ben had a lot of complicated feelings surrounding it, after all.

His whole body ached, senses flaring out in pain before he could stop himself and, even if it was obvious he was awake by now, Junior kept his eyes closed and took stock before anything else. His back was a blazing sun of pain where he had taken a tonfa just barely shielded by his meager knowledge of using the Force to move and hold objects. The rest of him was a mass of pain and bruises but his back was probably the worst-off. Not a good scenario if he wanted to get back home anytime soon. Next, he reached out with his Force sense — one of two things that came naturally to him — and halted almost immediately for the presence sitting right above him.

Eyes shooting open, Junior found himself face-to-face with a hardened mask. One he had never seen before in person, but depictions and dreams were more than enough. "Ben?"

It was a good day so far. Even if they really hadn't done anything, and nothing existentially important was going on, Junior was in good spirits. He had Felix, and he had his grandparents, and even if they had this party to go to, it was more than enough for everyone to be together. They still weren't "officially" together yet despite it being the most open secret of all time; their arrangement wasn't anything hidden, but the paperwork and actual legality was still stuck in bureaucratic hell. That was whatever.

Right now, Junior didn't care for any of that. While he'd gone out to mingle for a bit, mostly just listening in to conversations and nodding his head and pretending he cared about what everyone was talking about, he found himself drawn back to Felix more and more. Sometimes just passing him by to brush his shoulder or let his hand cup around his waist briefly before moving on, but soon he simply placed himself behind his fiancé and wrapped his arms around his sides with a contented hum.

"Having a good time?" he asked. It was hard for Felix to ever not have a good time where people and parties were involved. Still, it was the best way for Junior to ask after him. He definitely did not want Felix to feel unattended right now.

WHEN idk have we decided years yet
WHERE An Art Gallery.
WHY because Junior's parents are DEAAAAAD

Junior had never been good with words. Even as a child, expressing himself had been an exercise in frustration, pantomime and a lot of learned independence. It wasn't for lack of trying or his grandparents' best efforts. Word just didn't come. They weren't his to share. Not like Felix, who made words into beautiful tapestries and could talk for hours without once stumbling over himself or searching for descriptions he couldn't find. It was a compliment to how they worked, able to read each other in the ways no one else could grasp, shoring up their weak spots.

Words didn't work for Junior, but maybe he could get some ideas from the art gallery. Even if he wasn't going to get that lucky, their mutual friend had an exhibit that was to be unveiled that day and it was an opportunity. He'd had plenty of them, and somehow kept messing them up, but he wasn't going to throw in the towel. He would keep trying to make himself known to Felix for however long it would take.

It helped that the exhibit was going to be on cyborgs in society. Something Junior appreciated considering the status of his best friend as a cyborg. In society. (Those words sure are handy, huh, Junior?) The subject was close to both of them for the same but different reasons. Plenty of things to try talking about.

"This one's nice," Junior heard himself say as they stopped in front of some vague-shapes-forming-a-vaguer-picture. The other exhibit wasn't quite open yet, but they would be unveiling it soon. Not very smooth, he had to admit, though he would still give himself points for effort.
