[ On good days, Chris's routine can be rather... well, routine. On crazy days, they're being invaded by aliens and entering space battles and it's the fun and exhilarating kind of crazy. On annoying days, there is absolutely nothing to do on the ship which means everyone is looking to do menial shit and being good at being good at things backfires right in the ensign's face on days like these.
It's another annoying day today and most departments are trying to vie for his time, as the lack of red alert state makes his presence in the armory negligible. Right now, he's found himself inside a jeffries tube with a datapad full of the latest reports of his security level on different topics surrounding the Enterprise.
... okay, and maybe he has a few for-fun fiction novels in there, too. Not that anyone's going to find them on pain of their deaths. Hopefully no one thinks to look in the shafts of deck level D for him before his shift on patrol. ]

However, getting himself out and away is most definitely more suspicious than trying to play it off and send the person packing. His plans are only slightly altered when he realizes it's Commander Tucker and not some lackey who drew the short end of the stick to check the area. ]
Commander. [ He gives a nod of acknowledgment where a proper salute literally wouldn't fit. ] Looking for some alone time, you know? It's a little... busy on board today.

Tell me 'bout. Don't blame you in the slightest. Though it would figure I'd find you at the source of the glitch I'm chasing.

[ Is this the thing the other engineers were trying to con Chris into discovering for them? No wonder. Glitches are nasty little things and nobody likes having to deal with things they can't even pinpoint. ]
What's it doing?

[The list of minor things that he never had time for and usually delegated to other people. It said something that he was out looking for it.]

[ One might say the same thing to Chris, actually, seeing as he specifically sought out a secluded area just to get some reading done. That is, if one doesn't know of how the other departments consider him their prime replacement or extra hand when necessary. In all honest, Chris is pretty flattered and definitely proud that he's achieved such a rank in their minds but it gets tiring when it just keeps happening. He's allowed to be grumpy over it. ]
Need a hand with that?
