[ On good days, Chris's routine can be rather... well, routine. On crazy days, they're being invaded by aliens and entering space battles and it's the fun and exhilarating kind of crazy. On annoying days, there is absolutely nothing to do on the ship which means everyone is looking to do menial shit and being good at being good at things backfires right in the ensign's face on days like these.

It's another annoying day today and most departments are trying to vie for his time, as the lack of red alert state makes his presence in the armory negligible. Right now, he's found himself inside a jeffries tube with a datapad full of the latest reports of his security level on different topics surrounding the Enterprise.

... okay, and maybe he has a few for-fun fiction novels in there, too. Not that anyone's going to find them on pain of their deaths. Hopefully no one thinks to look in the shafts of deck level D for him before his shift on patrol. ]

[Annoying days for Chris usually meant annoying days for Malcolm because when people from the other departments come looking for Chris, they always end up at the armory. If there's one thing Malcolm can't stand, it's people hovering around his armory that don't belong there.

So while he doesn't need to go search for Chris, he ends up looking for him anyway so that he can get rid of the intruders. Finding someone from engineering, he asks where they're doing work on the ship and once he gets an answer, he sets off to go find his wayward second in command.

It's not long after he starts his search that he finds Chris (more like stumbles upon him, but Malcolm isn't going to admit that) in his hiding spot. He looks almost disappointed when he does, but not for his choice of hiding spots, but more for the fact that Chris has to hide himself away. He really needs to bring this up with the Captain at the earliest chance to get this to stop.

Ensign. There's something in the armoury that needs your attention.

It's starting to cause problems.

[Seriously, Malcolm is out looking for you while on duty. You know how he is.]

I thought it would be best if you dealt with it immediately.

[Trip actually wasn't looking for Chris. He was searching for a wayward glitch that none of his staff could seem to find when he sent them looking for it. Poor Hess had almost resorted to tearing her hair our and he knew he heard Rostov utter a few choice, off-duty words under his breath upon his return. So, it was up to the Chief Engineer to track it down, since he was the one who knew Enterprise's systems best of all.

The datapad he had linked to the scanning program said the glitch was somewhere up ahead and to the right. When Trip crawled that far, he didn't necessary find the glitch, but an Ensign Halliwell as well.]

uh...Hi. What are you doing here?

[The nod was given one in return, especially since Trip would have waved off any attempted to salute that would have come from most of the armory staff.]

Tell me 'bout. Don't blame you in the slightest. Though it would figure I'd find you at the source of the glitch I'm chasing.

Just a silly thing. Investigating why a crewman taking a shower on E deck causes their lights to dim. I think the water 'n power lines are crossed somewhere but heck if any of my engineers can find it. Since all we had was maintenance to do in engineering today, I'm tackling the ever growing to-do list.

[The list of minor things that he never had time for and usually delegated to other people. It said something that he was out looking for it.]
