WHO Chris Halliwell ([personal profile] misconceived), Cole Turner ([personal profile] devilsinthedetails).
WHAT In a universe where Chris is the son of Phoebe and Cole, his father has had enough hints dropped to maybe piece things together. Now he's going to go prove it.
WHEN Sometime after 6x12: Prince Charmed.
WHERE Back room at P3.
WHY Because Leo would make a terrible father.

To say that Chris was exhausted would probably be an understatement. Oh, physically he was passing by just fine, but ever since the sisters had more or less evicted him from the manor, things had been going pretty harshly. He should have known they wouldn't believe him about Wyatt, yet he had hoped that perhaps could have squirmed around it. Messing with Piper's birthday man at the same time probably only made it worse. They had never really trusted him so he wasn't quite sure why it hurt him or surprised him so much, especially after so many months of living mired in their suspicion.

Either way, all that meant was that Chris was on his own on following his leads until he could get back into the girls' neutral graces again. That meant making careful steps and not expecting backup, which also meant he needed to take care of himself and make sure he could at least work without collapsing in the middle of meeting with any of his informants. Demons sure did love it when you bared your weak little throat like that to them.

With a quiet scoff to himself, Chris entered his room at P3, nothing more than a converted storage/office to hold a cot in it, then stopped utterly short when he noticed that he wasn't alone. Brief flashbacks of Bianca waiting for him stuttered through his mind, overlaying that image with his new intruder. "Cole?" he asked. "What are you doing here?"

"I wouldn't blame him if he did," Piper muttered as her attention turned from talking with Leo to finding Cole before anybody else ended up having to deal with the overly friendly demon. They could talk about this more after everything was settled and when Cole wasn't a threat to people's personal space.

Part of him was glad that Chris was vetoing him dealing with Phoebe at the moment. He could think of far better people to deal with now, like Leo and Paige and Piper. They were all people Cole didn't outright hate at the moment, though a spell couldn't do so much to help his problems with Paige. "I don't know how long I can sit here for, Chris. I really want to go out and find somebody to be with, possibly multiple somebodies."

Hearing the doorbell, Piper grabbed Leo's arm and dragged him along. She knew just as well as Chris that whoever was there could be a potential target of the affections of the mighty Belthazor and she really wasn't up to explaining to anyone why Cole was coming onto them. "Downstairs, downstairs, let's go."

Cole sprang to action the second he heard the doorbell and shimmered away to see who was at the door. Knowing that Chris would try to stop him, he was quick and opened the door before anybody could stop him. Blocking the opened door with his body, Cole grinned and leaned against it. "Hey," he said cheerfully. "What can I help you with?"

It was definitely going to be difficult to stop Cole because he waved his hand to push Chris away gently with telekinesis so that he didn't get in the way of him trying to pull Darryl in. He hid the wave as if he was waving off Chris saying that it wasn't a good time, scoffing lightly. "Don't listen to him. Everything's perfectly fine. Why don't you come in? Piper would love to see you before you head off."

Speaking of Piper, she would have kissed Leo for orbing them downstairs, but she was going to wait until after this mess was sorted. Hearing Cole talking, she runs to the front door, looking extremely agitated. "Cole, what do you think you're doing? Step away from Darryl and let Chris figure out a counterspell to reverse this."

"Actually, it's not a bad time at all," Cole said as he reached out to grab Darryl's arm, yanked him forward into a hug, and shimmered him to the couch, sitting down on it and pulling Darryl down on his lap. He wasn't all that worried about him escaping because of their differences in strength, so he settled down to cuddle with him. "They're just worrying over nothing."

Since Cole wasn't exactly being quiet, Piper heard where he was and turned, spotting him on the couch with Darryl and stalking over to him, definitely looking annoyed and frustrated. "You can't just grab random people and attacking them with affection, Cole. Let Darryl go and wait for Chris to reverse this spell, okay?"

The magic took a moment to settle into Cole, but when it did, it was definitely obvious. His expression changed to horror and he let go of Darryl as if he was some kind of rabid animal that he wanted nothing to do with. Taking a moment to look at everyone around the room, his eyes stopped on Leo for a moment before he turned his head away quickly, turning a bright shade of red rarely seen on Cole outside of Belthazor.

"I'm sorry about that, Darryl, Leo. I should be going," he said and without waiting for any kind of response, Cole shimmered out to go hide in shame for as long as he could possibly get away with. That was beyond embarrassing. That was mortifying and he never wanted to go through it again. It was terrible.

Whitelighters might find their peace standing on top of the Golden Gate Bridge, but Cole always found took comfort from the view from Alcatraz, sitting on top of the water tower and looking out onto the bay below. Part of him wanted to go back to his apartment and hide under the covers, but he knew that he needed to take some time to sift through what had happened under the influence of the spell before he decided to hide from the world.

The dread and foreboding that naturally permeated the island was a calming presence to him and allowed him to think about what happened. Not for long though, because he could tell he wasn't alone and he didn't even turn to see who it was. There was only one person it could be. "Chris. I caused you a whole lot of trouble today."

He had to shake his head and laugh at his apology. Cole didn't blame Chris for the spell backfiring and he wasn't angry at him for it happening. "I'm not mad at you. It wasn't as if you meant to have the spell backfire on me," he said as he stood up and moved to grab his arm so that he wouldn't shimmer away. Chris was a runner and Cole was going to make sure he stayed instead of fleeing like he normally did.

"Come here and sit with me," Cole said as he tugged on his son's arm lightly. If he couldn't sit here and have a sulk by himself without interruption, then neither was Chris. They had each other to help the other deal with the fallout of the spell's backfire and Cole was going to make sure Chris knew that he was always going to be there for him, no matter what.

"Like I just said, I'm not angry over what happened. I'm more embarrassed than anything and that's something I can live with." It would take a lot more for Cole to truly get upset by something and he wasn't going to go off on Chris for something that was very clearly an accident. Cole had to wonder just how bad he was in the future to make Chris think that he had to take the blame for something like this. "Wanting you to be a whitelighter was my own issue and not something that you can take the blame for. Think of it as fatherly concerns."

And what concerns they were. He only wanted what's best for Chris, even before they had succeeded in actually making sure he was born, and he didn't want Chris to go through the same scrutiny he went under dealing with the sisters and other beings of good magic. They thought demons, even half demons, were always evil and even when they tried to change for good, nothing would change. If people thought that of him, then they'd think that of Chris and that thought infuriated Cole more than a backfired spell ever could.

What Chris didn't seem to realize was that no matter what he thought, Cole was going to worry about his son, any version of his son, no matter what said son thought about it. He was going to make sure that Chris was going to be born, but that didn't mean he had to focus solely on that and ignore the future version of his son. There was no way he would ever entertain the thought. "You're still my son, Chris, despite the difference in time. I'm going to worry about you no matter what."

He looked out onto the bay, watching the rough water churn far beneath them. This place definitely worked as a better place to think than the whitelighter's choice of the bridge. Everything seemed to matter less on a desolate prison rock in the middle of the bay. Glancing over at Chris, he gave him a bit of a smile. "I'm glad that the spell didn't work. At least now there's a chance I can do things properly with your mother."

At the huff, Cole laughed and reached out to place his hand in Chris' hair, ruffling it affectionately. It was adorable that Chris thought age was going to stop a parent from being a parent and make it so they no longer worried about their child. Considering what Cole knew about the future Chris had come back from to stop, he definitely wasn't going to stop worrying and caring for his son. "You're never too old for that," he said and grinned. "Besides, twenty-two isn't that old for a demon."

"That's why you'll have a backup plan in case I don't succeed." Cole knew better than anyone just how little Phoebe liked him these days. After all, she had been the one to vanquish him in the end. Both times. It would be difficult for her to even trust him, let alone love him again. Hell, at this point, it was probably even impossible, but Cole was going to try, not to rekindle what they had lost over the years, but to save his son. "I know it's going to be difficult, Chris, but I have to try. I'm not going to give up just because it isn't easy."

"Witches are only human, no matter how magical they may be," Cole responded with a shrug. That was something he had been painfully aware of when he and Phoebe were in a relationship. If he hadn't lost his powers, he would have never aged throughout her lifetime and possibly stayed the same for a long time afterwards. He didn't let Chris' reluctance stop him and he didn't so much keep ruffling his hair so much as just keep his hand in place in his hair. "Why don't I get back to you in that when you get to be in your sixties?"

When it came to something like this, Cole was like a dog with a bone. He wasn't going to give up on it no matter what anybody said. Even if it seemed like all was lost, Cole wasn't going to give up. It just wasn't in his nature. "It seems like that got passed on to you."
devilsinthedetails: (♟ no I can't stand the pain)

"In some places, sure, but not that one. They'll age and die just like any other human," Cole pointed out calmly. He had accepted that fact long ago and now that he was back to being half-demon, he was going to outlast all of the sisters. While Chris did not noticing him leaning, Cole did and didn't put any attention to it for fear of Chris noticing and moving away again. "You have enough demon blood in you that it should affect your aging as well."

Cole goes quiet at Chris' words and doesn't look at him, thinking over what he's saying. He knows the implication and to him, it's difficult comprehending the fact that he'd tell somebody, anybody about everything that has happened, but it makes sense. It's his son and of course he'd tell him his tale as a caution against evil. "How much do you know?"
