WHO "Aaron" (
mysterzie), Jason Marks (
blackjackofall)
WHAT Birthday surprise! ... and not just for the lucky kid, either.
WHEN December 15th, 2015.
WHERE Jason's rather lavish hotel room.
WHY Do I even need to say it?
For all that Jace was terrible at being in the right place at the right time, he did at least have a good sense of excellent hotel rooms. Last year and the year before had been foiled in catching Jace anywhere on this particular day, so Aaron decided this year to make sure to catch the guy sometime before midnight. He hadn't had anyone to really celebrate his birthday with for five years running, so of course he was wanting to do something with the one person who still talked to him.
But he wasn't here. Aaron was beginning to get frustrated with that. It wasn't as if Jace had holiday shopping to do or anything, so where could he be? Where could he consistently be that wasn't where he should have been? Whatever. Aaron would wait. As it was, he'd searched the suite thoroughly for any special decks lying around just in case, then settled for a mundane one and a small bottle of champagne from the minifridge before he spread out on the huge bed. Barefoot, sleeves rolled up and legs curled up under him, he was dealing out cards and picking them up, shuffling before he laid them out again.
If he timed it right, maybe it would look like he'd just gotten there when Jace arrived. That would be really cool.

By the time he was done for the day, all he wanted to do was relax and maybe pass out early so that he'd be ready for another onslaught of people who just would not let their powers fucking be. When he got into his hotel room and saw Aaron, Jace stopped and groaned.
"Oh, I am not ready for your shit tonight. Can't you go bother somebody else?"
no subject
"Not today," Aaron said, dealing out a few more cards and finally starting up an actual game. Make it look like he'd actually been doing something this whole time. The actual demeanor didn't even phase him; Aaron really just didn't want to spend another December 15th alone. So it was a night to dig in his heels like any other night. "Especially not today. Where have you been?"

"I was working," he grumbled as he opened up his coffee and drank it. He was going to need it if Aaron was going to be around for any period of time. "Which I'm sure you don't understand, so what do you want?"

"We should go out somewhere," Aaron mused to himself. "Having a birthday in a hotel room is boring. At least, when you won't let me do anything fun, it is. It's my birthday and you're never around, but you're here tonight so we're going to do something at least until midnight. Okay?"

His brain's not at full speed today otherwise he'd be trying to figure out who exactly Aaron was just by their birthday, but he'll get to that later. Right now, he's got a rogue shapeshifter to kick out and a bed with his name on it.

It was entirely true, at that. There was no one else that Aaron kept in prolonged contact with, no other friends who could possibly have an idea that Aaron was more than just the pretty face he put on most of the time (although he was incredibly fond of this face, and more mischievously attached to the others), so why would Jace think he'd want to celebrate with anyone closer than someone Aaron could sort of call a friend? It was just plain stupid and was showing how tired the older dealer must have been.
"Come on, Jace," he wheedled, climbing off the bed to stand in front of the other. He put his hands on his chest less as some sort of come on and more to try and emphasize his point with touch. "Promise I won't bother you on Christmas if you let me stick around tonight?"
