i go about things the wrong way. [ psl ]

WHO Chris Halliwell ([personal profile] misconceived), Cole Turner ([personal profile] devilsinthedetails).
WHAT In a universe where Chris is the son of Phoebe and Cole, his father has had enough hints dropped to maybe piece things together. Now he's going to go prove it.
WHEN Sometime after 6x12: Prince Charmed.
WHERE Back room at P3.
WHY Because Leo would make a terrible father.

To say that Chris was exhausted would probably be an understatement. Oh, physically he was passing by just fine, but ever since the sisters had more or less evicted him from the manor, things had been going pretty harshly. He should have known they wouldn't believe him about Wyatt, yet he had hoped that perhaps could have squirmed around it. Messing with Piper's birthday man at the same time probably only made it worse. They had never really trusted him so he wasn't quite sure why it hurt him or surprised him so much, especially after so many months of living mired in their suspicion.

Either way, all that meant was that Chris was on his own on following his leads until he could get back into the girls' neutral graces again. That meant making careful steps and not expecting backup, which also meant he needed to take care of himself and make sure he could at least work without collapsing in the middle of meeting with any of his informants. Demons sure did love it when you bared your weak little throat like that to them.

With a quiet scoff to himself, Chris entered his room at P3, nothing more than a converted storage/office to hold a cot in it, then stopped utterly short when he noticed that he wasn't alone. Brief flashbacks of Bianca waiting for him stuttered through his mind, overlaying that image with his new intruder. "Cole?" he asked. "What are you doing here?"

It hadn't taken long for Cole to find out the truth about Chris. Recently, Leo had been dropping hints that the whitelighter probably thought were clever, but were in truth actually quite obvious and rather stupid. By this point, Cole had almost shouted at Leo to just tell him already instead of beating around the bush, not caring of the fact that he already knew and there was no reason to be told.

Except for the fact that he needed to be told by Chris. His son. The demon Cole believed to be untrustworthy and probably only around to manipulate the sisters to change the future for evil. Even thinking about it now made Cole sick, a heavy weight in his stomach over the fact that he had been that awful to Chris. He hadn't been aware of his true identity at the time, but it didn't matter, he should have realized it without Leo's annoying brand of help.

What he was planning wasn't the most fatherly of ideas, but what Cole had seen of Chris since the young man had summoned him, he would be able to handle it. He shimmered into the back room of P3 that he knew Chris stayed in and waited for him to show up. When Chris finally came into the room, Cole crossed his arms and took a step forward. "I thought it was time for the two of us to have a little talk."

"Last I checked, talking doesn't mean vanquishing, unless that's something that's changed while I've been in the void." Cole merely watched as Chris put his jacket away and once he was done, Cole slammed the door shut behind Chris with a flick of his wrist. He needed to show him just how serious he was about dealing with this and that he was not afraid to throw his weight around to do so. "I know. I've been keeping watch on the manor just to see if you would decide to come back to do something to Wyatt again."

While dropping clues, Leo had mentioned something along the lines of Chris having a good reason for doing what he did and that it was an overreaction to Chris' demon form that really was the reason for their anger. He hadn't believed it at first, but the revelation that Chris was a son was doing wonders for looking back at previous actions and seeing them in a different light. "Did you do something else that you need to be vanquished for?"

"I don't believe you," he responded accusingly, stepping closer to Chris and appearing intimidating just by nature and by no real act of trying. Cole for going for scary while still not yet pushing himself into being Belthazor quite yet. If he needed to, he'd pull that out, but right now, just being Cole was enough for him to start pushing Chris down the path to the truth.

Once he was close enough, Cole grabbed the front of his shirt and slammed Chris up against the nearest wall, staying close enough to show Chris that he wasn't in the mood to play any games and that this was something serious that he was going to deal with now. "You see, I can you're telling the truth when you say you want to help, but that was never the question we were asking. Who are you trying to help, Chris? Are you here to help the Charmed Ones and Wyatt? Or are you here to help further your own goals in the future by destroying everything in your way?"

Thankfully, Cole wasn't going to make a grab for his neck. He wanted to scare, not actually hurt him, so he was doing the usual demon intimidation tactics. Act in control and throw around your strength so nothing will stand in your way. It was definitely a terrible thing to do to his own son, but if he could believe in something, it's that no child of his and Phoebe's would ever be weak enough to not handle this sort of thing.

"How can I believe you when you don't tell us anything but vague statements or promises?" When Chris started to shimmer, Cole grabbed Chris' arm with his free hand and shimmered with him, keeping close so he could throw him to the ground. Looking down at him, Cole looked very aware that he had the upper hand there and was just waiting for him to stand, do something about this attacker coming into his space and tossing him around it. "Tell me the truth, Chris! Why are you here? What are your goals? Why won't you trust us?"

"Isn't it?" Cole wasn't afraid of what Chris could potentially do to him. and stepped forward again, bringing a hand up as if he was considering attacking him. They were getting closer to the edge of the proverbial cliff and Cole wasn't about to back off when he was actually getting somewhere with Chris for once. "How can you complete your mission when you won't even trust us enough to help you? You're not giving us any reason to want to."

He stood there, tall and proud and looking as if nothing Chris could do would shake him. There was some space left between them, Cole not wanting to spook Chris into shimmering off again when he still had to push him more, force him to reveal what they both already knew. "You've lost. How can you even think to save Wyatt, if that's truly what you're after, when the sisters won't even let you into the manor? What now? Are you going to force your way in, show them your true colors? They're just waiting for you to slip up and show how evil you really are."

If Chris had actually been a demonic threat to worry about, then Cole would have been at the forefront to stop him, but he knew better now and not just thanks to Leo. After all, for a good chunk of time, it had been Cole that had been the demonic threat and he had the experience to know when it was happening again before even the sisters could at times. What Cole was doing right now? This wasn't dealing with a threat, it was overblown posturing and it was a good thing to know that even Cole faking it was enough to mess with Chris so strongly.

"Then prove it. Give me something other than vague statements about what may or may not happen in the future!" He shouted the last word, looking as if he was going to step forward and deciding against it. Instead, he held out his hand and an energy ball formed in his palm, crackling with power while Cole seemed to contemplate throwing it at the younger demon. "It's too late to do this on your own, Chris. You dragged all of us into this and now we can't just back out while Wyatt's at stake. And I still don't know why you dragged me out of the void."

Cole wanted what Chris didn't want to give, but he had never been the type to let someone get away when he wanted what they had, which in this case was the truth about how they were related. He wasn't going to give up on this and if that meant that he had to use all of the resources he had available to them, then so be it. He won't be getting any father of the year awards anytime soon, but right now, the present with Chris here was more important than however he would treat Chris in the future.

"Is that what you call standing over Wyatt in your demon form, 'opening up'? I'm surprised the sisters haven't already vanquished you." He steps forward, energy ball still in hand, until he's right in front of him and then he winds his arm back like he's about to throw the energy ball at him, his features warping until it's Belthazor standing there, far more intimidating than Cole's human form could ever be. Throwing his arm forward, he slams his hand into the wall right next to Chris' head, the energy ball having been forced to fizzle out before it even got close to him. "You brought me back to use me. I haven't figured out why yet, but I will and when that happens, I'll make sure you can't go through with it."

Hands immediately moved to grab Chris' shoulders the moment he saw that Chris was going to shimmer away. He wasn't going to let him go, not after they had finally gotten to the breaking point, and shimmered along with him. There wasn't anything he could say at first, running over the specifics of what he said in his head and things clicked in place. Chris was desperate and fighting against time to even exist and Cole could comprehend how they could even make that possible, what with Phoebe still cold and distant towards him after everything that had happened between them. But that subject could wait a moment while he dealt with his son.

"Chris, look at me, it's okay. I know," he said, still as Belthazor. He might have lost that part of him for a period of time, but now that it was back, it was like wearing an old glove, fitting perfect and comfortably, and part of him had almost forgotten that he didn't need to stay in this form. He changed back to his human form, hands still tight on Chris' shoulders while he tried to look the young man in the eyes. "I knew you were my son. Whitelighters tend to be as messy with their secrets as they are with their magic. He didn't say anything to me about you being on a time limit to be conceived. What went off track and how can we fix it?"

At first, he didn't even notice where exactly they had shimmered to, his focus all on Chris to make sure he didn't run off and hide before they could really talk about this. Awareness of their new surroundings came quite quickly though and Cole had to stop to look around and take in where exactly they were. There was a bit of surprise on his face as he looked back at Chris, not really comprehending the fact that they were there at first, but surprise soon disappeared and he was mentally back on his feet like a cat that had stumbled and pretended that it had never happened.

When Chris punched his shoulder, he didn't move out of the way, taking the hit and then rolling his shoulder to almost shake away any pain that would come from it. He had pushed hard and Chris was angry and Cole knew that the punch was provoked. "I deserved that," he said simply, hands in his pocket as he turned from Chris and looked out over the bay. It was beautiful up here and he could see why Chris would come here, even if it wasn't exactly his cup of tea. "I wanted to hear the truth from you, not some nosy whitelighter that thinks he knows what he's doing, and if I had come up to you directly, you would have danced around the subject like you do with everything. That doesn't justify my actions, though, and I'm sorry for playing you like I did."

"Not yet," he says, honesty shining through. Chris must have missed the last point of what he said since he was busy fighting off his supposed unaware father. If that was the case, Cole wasn't going to hold it against him and instead focus on the fact that they really need to talk about this and how to change it. "There's something else we need to discuss before I can really be satisfied."

Walking over to Chris, he was a lot more relaxed, no longer having to put on a physical presence of the upper-level demon he had tried to move away from being. There was no need for posturing right now since they knew where they stood with each on some level. They weren't here to take power from each other or fight. "You said that you were running out of time to be conceived. What happened?"

There wasn't any comments at first from Cole. He was absorbing everything Chris said and going over it with a fine-toothed comb to not only get what Chris was saying, but what he wasn't. Cole could definitely see why Chris was worried about his conception, since Phoebe was definitely not pleased to have him back in her life and had no plans to reconcile with him. "The only reason they would have summoned me is if there was something that only I could deal with and as a last resort after they exhausted every other avenue. Since it's virtually impossible for me and your mother to get back together, we should try for a lower goal like a one night stand."

The other big problem was that the sisters were still mad at Chris and didn't want him anywhere near the manor. That would take some working out since it was a breach of trust involving Wyatt and Cole knew it would be difficult for anybody to come back after that, but they'd have to try. "But let me deal with your mother. Right now, we need to work on a way to make it so that the sisters will trust you enough to let you back into the manor. I'm sure we can get Leo to help us with that because if there's anyone the sisters trust above anyone else, it's their whitelighter."

"Of course they didn't," Cole said with an annoyed tone. He knew Chris wasn't hiding anything now since that'd be more harmful than productive at this point, but it still bothered him that even in a future where he and Phoebe had gotten back together in some form and had a child, they wouldn't talk about how it happened. Something must have happened, but there was no way to find out about it now. The future had already been changed and they couldn't fix it back to how it was originally. "Once we're sure you'll be conceived, then I can work on us having another go at a relationship."

Cole couldn't help but feel bad for Chris being stuck with Leo as his only ally. It wasn't that Leo was a bad guy, quite the opposite in fact, but sometimes Cole had to wonder if Leo even had a spine with how often he bent to what the sisters wanted. Spineless whitelighters weren't what they needed right now, which was probably why Leo was dropping the hints in the first place. "You still haven't found out who is going to go after Wyatt, right? Being stuck outside the manor like a cat in trouble isn't going to do you any favors in keeping him safe. I'll talk to Leo and see if we can't figure something out together."

"Hey, come here." He didn't even give Chris the chance to do anything because he was walking to him and then pulled him into a hug, holding him close and not saying anything for a long period of time, not planning on letting him go until he felt they were done. The fact that Chris blamed himself for something that was obviously a freak accident hurt Cole in ways he didn't even realize he could be hurt. "Listen to me. This is not your fault, understand? It was an accident and we're going to fix this. You're going to be born and I'm going to make sure you're the happiest little boy the world has ever seen, okay?"

Even Cole could tell that Chris was frustrated by the lack of developments in the case of who was going to come after Wyatt. He could also tell that doing this, saving his cousin, was incredibly important to him and that obviously the two were incredibly close in the future. If that was the case, Cole was going to do everything in his power to help, not only because Wyatt was Piper and Leo's son, but because it was what Chris would want. "You're a Halliwell, Chris. The Book is your birthright and part of your power, so not having access to it weakens you, even if it's not as obvious as it could be. I'll get you back into the sisters' good graces and then all of us can work together to keep Wyatt safe."
