Nodding thoughtfully, Chris looked back out over the bay. "All right," he concluded. "Then we've basically got him on speed-dial for later. Right now I want to figure out what kind of magic Clarisse's family must have practiced that a demon would want to steal their book. Whatever she was into, she was good at keeping it to a low profile."

That was the rub. Their only clue currently laid in the hands of the demon and they needed to get it back for themselves before they could properly assess the threat. Aside from that, demons generally didn't practice spellcasting on their own so that added the possibility that the demon had been working for or with someone else who had a more sensible interest in the book. "What exactly did you see when you were in his eyes, anyway?"
