While Chris didn't pull away, Cole did and turned to look at the fire. Chris might not have wanted it to be taken like a rejection or a denial, but Cole took it as one and slight misery crept out onto the link. He knew he should have waited before telling Chris this part about himself, but he didn't want to keep secrets from his summoner if he didn't have to, though he was really reconsidering that now that this was out in the open. He really didn't deserve to be Chris's summon.
"I am one, but it's not--I'm not--you won't--" he sighed and ran his hands through his hair as he tried to word this right. Cole didn't want Chris to hate him for something he could change. "Demons aren't exactly exactly the nicest spirits in the realm, I'll admit, but that doesn't mean that they're--we're--like the stories. I won't hurt you. You're my summoner. I love you too much to want to hurt you in any way."
