"That's weird," Chris said plainly. He knew that different states had different laws and all of that, but to have lawyers have to do everything over in order to continue practicing seemed like a bit much. Then again, he knew how much politicians and the like loved their red tape and had stayed far away from that sort of thing, so it probably made some kind of better sense to them. "Are there any where it does transfer?"

At the laugh, Chris gave a disgruntled look in return. He didn't find it particularly funny, but then again, he had been the one killed by it. "Most ghosts don't really have the kind of power you'd need to keep doing it," he pointed out. "Conviction's got nothing to do with it."
