"Most reporters do," he said dryly. That was certainly a fact. You didn't get very far in the business without being able to ask questions, and the sorts of questions people would care reading about often required a lot of bullheadedness. Shannon was all too aware of this fact and had been even before he'd started speaking to public in a more official capacity. "It's your readers who get to decide if you're worth it or not, though."

Shannon mimicked the shrug. He could read the motion by the sound, the slight displacement around him, the lack of Delacroix's voice coming from other directions or footsteps. Everything a person did told a story on levels they didn't even realize sometimes. "Well, in that case, you've got my number and you've got a promise for a scoop already. Maybe your own Pulitzer isn't so far away. I mean, I'm such a hard-to-find interviewee and all."
