While he was writing things down, Eli looked up and started studying this officer carefully. He was good at picking up things about people and he definitely wanted to learn more about him. The words seemed to be something he truly believed, but there was something off about him, not really seeming like he had the same presence as the other cops around.

"That's good to hear," he said cheerfully. "The people are worried that this case, like many other recent violent crimes, wouldn't get the careful inspection they need due to the rampant corruption the the police department. What do you say to that?"

There's a tone to his voice on the last part that makes it sound like it was a routine question he's been forced to ask instead of something he wanted to. It's only made more clear by what he said next. "I wouldn't blame you if you said something along the lines of 'fuck off' to that."
