Although Shannon hadn't been expecting Eli to take his glasses, he tipped his head up and held still until Eli spoke. He felt a bit odd without them, like wearing shoes without socks or something, even if they weren't at all necessary. It was habit and they'd become a part of his usual attire. Taking them off felt weird, but nice at the same time.
He stood slowly at that, tapping his knee against the bed between Eli's legs to see if there was any room for him to kneel or lean while he inspected the new jacket. "More complicated?" he asked, hands already reaching out to inspect for himself. They started near Eli's chest, and almost immediately found one of the new features as they trailed about. His head dipped and tilted while he followed the strap of leather in both directions. Eventually he came to pick up the slack end with one hand, feeling along the end to discern how it might fit into the other side of the jacket — surely they couldn't just be there to hang now for no reason? Using his other hand, he felt along the opposite side and found what he was looking for: buckles. His face transformed into a grin while he began putting the two pieces together with the same care and focus as before. Not only did the material itself feel grand in his fingers, texture and smell and consistency, but letting his fingers work the small but simple mechanisms kept him occupied, helped still some of his constantly roiling thoughts. Once that was done, he continued his exploration, pausing every time he found a strap or buckle to locate its other half and reunite them, and making sure after that the fold underneath wasn't going to get caught bent at an odd angle. By the time he'd gotten to the bottom, he seemed satisfied with his understanding of the jacket while also having missed the high collar entirely.
