As soon as Abel began drawing attention to himself, Jacob began to scramble away. It was a gut reaction, trying to put distance between himself and the perceived harbinger of death before him. Although he would only go as far as the opposite nightstand, hunger and weariness dragging his body down and making it difficult to stand without the wall's help, at least now there was a bed between them.
