Cole could tell that Chris was doing better and he was genuinely glad. They were partners now, connected by the drift and never going to be quite the same ever again, and Cole was content with the idea that Chris was the one that was compatible with him over everyone else.

"Now I know. And I understand," he replied with a nod. This side of him knew better than anyone else how similar it was. "I'm a different person when I'm drifting. I can't change that, so we're going to see about making sure you don't fall again."
